Interview with HunterK

1. Introduce yourself.
Hi Hi! I'm known in DA as HunterK. K is for Kai, so please call me Kai haha. I've been with DA for 10 years. I have been drawing fan arts for as long as I remember.

2. What got you started working on Fan Art?
People learn by imitating. As babies, we started learning to talk by imitating our parents. I started drawing the same way (by copying).
When I started watching cartoons and anime, I can't help but be fascinated at the cute facial expressions, glorious outfits, graceful movements and colorful sceneries. I told myself: I also want to do something like that! I want to give life to something as amazing as that!
That's when I started copying anime characters (from tv screen to paper). I didn't even know it was called fan art back then haha.

3. What do you enjoy about making and viewing Fan Art?
In making fan arts: The thought that other people also enjoys what I love is gratifying. For me, it’s a way of connecting with people with the same interest. Not only that I give satisfaction to myself, I also contribute the the fandom.
In viewing fan arts: I really love to see the anime characters that I love in different styles and ideas that fan artists comes up with. Sometimes these ideas also become inspirations that encourages me to draw more.

4. How has Fan Art helped your art improve?
I am almost constantly faced with an art block. Drawing/viewing fan arts is a way to go through it since it gives you something to draw. And the more you draw the better you become. Practice makes perfect after all…
Also, the more I see beautiful pieces, the more I strive to be good at drawing.

5. In your opinion, what makes a work of Fan Art stand out?
The style. Each artist have their own style and when incorporated into fan arts, you won’t believe how interesting the results are.

6. What are the pros and cons of being a Fan Artist?
Hmm this is a hard one haha!
I think because these are established/known characters you are drawing, people know them so from just that, you already got their attention. When I first drew the Kagamines, I was surprised at the number of views and favs I got. That’s not even half the views I get from my other works combined haha. Okay that was a little exaggerated Wink/Razz

The only downside that I can think of right now is that it gives you a limited space/resource to work with. If you depend on fan art forever, it will not let you grow as much like other artists that create their own.

7. Can you give us some example of your own Fan Art that you're proud of?
I’m proud of all my artworks ^^ but here are a few that I hope others will also enjoy~
